monumental building which can be traced back to the year 1560.
It originally was a farmhouse of the second half of the XIV century. It was started by Fabio Visconti Borromeo and followed by Pirro I Visconti Visconti
Borromeo with the Nymphaeum building and its waterworks and the first part of the gardens.
In the XVIII century the Villa was bought by Litta family and
reached its full bloom. The Littas built up the eighteenth-century
castle and adorn the Villa with the Neptune and Galathea's fountains, gardens,
English-style parks and greenhouses. In 1872 it became property of the baron Ignazio Weill
Weiss, and in 1932 the new owner was Toselli family, in the end in 1970 it was bought by
Lainate Municipality The cobblestones frescoed by Camillo Procaccini with the use of an unique technique, the arabesques and the wonderful waterworks of the Nimphaeum, Morazzone and Levati's frescoes, the grotesques of the rooms of the eighteenth-century palace, the Historical Garden are all very important. In the garden you can admire the eighteenth-century fountains of Galathea (Donato Carabelli, Carrara marble, banisters made up of Candoglia marble) and of Neptune. You can also find the following plants: ginkgo, bilobate, red beech, liquidambar, oak, cedars of Lebanon and of Atlas, magnolias, horn beams, yews. Every Saturday night in June, July and September special shows of sounds and lights are organised. On the first Saturday and Sunday of September a Free Historical Commemoration in period costume is organised. |
